My children and I receive
much grief counseling as we learn to live without Tony. I have
two children with asthma. I have sat at my 9:00 a.m. to 5:30
p.m. job and prayed that my children would not call me away from
my job. I need my job to pay rent and daycare and food and
insurance…
It is time for a
reality check. I am a 42-year old divorced single mother of five
children under the age of 16. I am a career woman with 20 years
insurance underwriting experience in a management position
earning $55,000 a year. (I re-married July 17, 2006. My name
changed from Bluntson to Thomas but I still empathize with the
struggle of the single mother).
During 20 years
of obtaining a successful career I abandoned my children. I paid
out $1,200 to $2,000 each month to somebody else to “raise my
children”. Yes I needed money to provide for them. Yes they have
needs that require money. They also have needs no amount of
money can purchase. My children need my time and undivided
attention, they need my affirmation and acceptance, they need
security of knowing I am there for them. No amount of corporate
success can compensate for failure at home.
Our society
faces a devastating financial crisis which forces single mothers
to work two or three jobs just to make ends meet. Our children
are abandoned, neglected and killing each other in the streets
and we wonder why there are waiting lists for our children to
receive drug treatment and waiting lists for our children to
receive help for mental health and behavioral issues.
As a mother who
lost a child to gun violence, I say enough is enough. I have
made a commitment to speak up and peacefully fight for the lives
of our children. I made a commitment to my children that I will
work from home to provide for them and I will nurture and train
my own children. Today I am self-employed and it is my job to
equip singles mothers to start up and successfully operate their
own businesses so they provide for their own children from home.
We will soon provide
a list of various opportunities to work from home. Mothers
should use caution when selecting business opportunities.
Mothers of Crime Victims strongly recommend connecting with “For
Our Children”. I personally have researched this organization
and I am pleased to offer this opportunity.
